Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 November 2026

This policy explains which personal data is processed when you use the app Trekkr – Hundefährten GPS (the “app”) and the website trekkr.app. The Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revDSG) applies, and, where it applies, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Controller

2. Processing in the app

2.1 Location data (GPS)

During a run, the app records GPS positions so it can display and evaluate trails and training runs. Tracks, markers, the profile photo and settings stay on your device (local database). You can delete recordings in the app at any time; uninstalling the app removes all local data. For the weather display, the app sends a position rounded on the device to our server once per run (see Weather data). Legal basis, where the GDPR applies: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). The app accesses the location sensor only with your permission through the operating system's permission dialogs, and you can withdraw that permission there at any time.

Trekkr collects location data to enable trail recording even when the screen is locked or the app is in the background and not in use. On Android this is done through a foreground service; on iOS through the system's background location. This background recording happens only during an active run that you start in the app, and never otherwise. It stops as soon as the run ends.

2.2 Weather data

When a recording starts (or, if that fails, when it is saved) the app sends, once per run, a position rounded on the device to 2 decimal places (about 1 km), with no altitude, plus the UTC time, the app language and the unit, over HTTPS to our server altitudo-app.com (operator: Indiko Informatik, apps@indiko.ch). The server uses it to fetch weather from OpenWeatherMap (OpenWeather Ltd., United Kingdom) and logs only the rounded cell. Purpose: show the weather for the run. The weather is stored only on the device, with the run. Hosting: Hetzner Online GmbH, Falkenstein data centre, Germany. Server logs are deleted automatically after 30 days at the latest. Legal basis, where the GDPR applies: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and legitimate interest in showing the weather during the run (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The transfer to the United Kingdom is based on the adequacy decision (EU and Switzerland). Details: OpenWeather privacy policy.

2.3 Map display and offline maps (Mapbox)

To display the map and when downloading offline maps, the app loads map tiles, styles and terrain data from Mapbox (Mapbox, Inc., 740 15th Street NW, Washington, DC 20005, USA). Your IP address and the requested tile coordinates (a coarse map area) are transmitted to Mapbox as a technical necessity. Mapbox telemetry is off; the SDK does not send device locations to Mapbox. Legal basis: legitimate interest in displaying the map (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The transfer to the USA is based on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses. The map data is based in part on data from OpenStreetMap contributors. Details: Mapbox privacy policy.

2.4 Crash and error reports (Sentry)

To detect and fix crashes and errors, the app uses Sentry (Functional Software Inc., San Francisco, USA). Technical diagnostic data is transmitted, such as the error message, stack trace, app version, device model and operating system version. Crash reports go to Sentry (USA), including a random identifier generated per installation and session data (app start), without IP address and without default personal data (no “Default PII”). Location data and trail recordings are not sent to Sentry. Legal basis: legitimate interest in stability and fixing errors (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The transfer to the USA is based on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and on EU standard contractual clauses. Details: Sentry privacy policy.

2.5 Purchases

Trekkr Pro (ch.indiko.trekkr.pro) is a one-time in-app purchase. Google Play (Google LLC) and the App Store (Apple Inc.) handle purchases. We have no purchase server of our own and no advertising ID. Apple and Google act as independent controllers; we do not receive payment or account data, only a purchase confirmation used to unlock the features. The privacy policies of Apple and Google apply.

2.6 No account, no tracking

The app does not require a user account, contains no advertising, uses no advertising ID, and does not use analytics or tracking services for marketing.

3. Processing on the website

3.1 Server logs

When you open the website, the web server processes data that is technically required (IP address, time, page requested, user agent) to deliver the page and to defend against attacks. Legal basis: legitimate interest in secure operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Log data is deleted after 30 days at the latest.

3.2 Waitlist

If you join the waitlist, we process your email address to tell you when the app is available (consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR; you can withdraw it at any time by emailing apps@indiko.ch). To prevent abuse, a cryptographic hash of your IP address is also stored (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The data is deleted when the purpose no longer applies, and at the latest when you withdraw consent.

3.3 Cookies

The website uses only technically necessary, functional cookies (language preference, colour scheme). Consent is not required for these (§ 25(2) TDDDG; Art. 45c(b) FMG). No marketing or tracking cookies are used.

4. Recipients and transfers abroad

Personal data is transmitted only to the following recipients:

  • our server altitudo-app.com (operator: Indiko Informatik, apps@indiko.ch); hosting: Hetzner Online GmbH, Falkenstein data centre, Germany
  • OpenWeatherMap (OpenWeather Ltd., United Kingdom), for the weather request
  • Mapbox (Mapbox, Inc., USA), for map tiles; Mapbox telemetry is off
  • Sentry (Functional Software Inc., USA), for crash reports including a random identifier generated per installation and session data (app start), without IP address and without default personal data
  • Google Play (Google LLC) and the App Store (Apple Inc.), for the one-time purchase of Trekkr Pro

Transfers to countries without an adequate level of data protection take place only on the basis of recognised safeguards (adequacy decisions, the Data Privacy Framework, standard contractual clauses). Data is not sold.

5. Retention

We keep personal data only for as long as the stated purposes require. Tracks, markers, the profile photo, settings and the weather stored with the run stay on the device until you delete them or uninstall the app. For the weather request, the server logs only the rounded cell. Server logs are deleted automatically after 30 days at the latest. Waitlist data is kept until you withdraw consent or the purpose ends; website server logs for 30 days at most; crash reports are deleted at Sentry according to Sentry's retention periods (usually 90 days).

6. Your rights

Within the limits of the applicable law, you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interest. You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. Contact apps@indiko.ch.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Switzerland with the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), and in the EU with the data protection authority of your country of residence.

7. No automated individual decision-making

There is no automated decision-making, including profiling, within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.

8. Data security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss and misuse — including TLS encryption (HTTPS) of the website and of the weather request. Tracks, markers, the profile photo and settings stay on the device. For the weather, only a position rounded to 2 decimal places, with no altitude, is transmitted, and the server logs only that cell.

9. Changes

We update this policy when the processing or the law changes. The version published at trekkr.app/en/privacy is the one that applies.
